The Cy Young award races in both leagues are very interesting. A number of pitchers are enjoying outstanding seasons. In the National League, Miami’s Sandy Alcantara has been virtually unhittable. He is 9-4 with a 1.74 ERA for the season.
What’s interesting is that Milwaukee’s Corbin Burnes, who won the award last year, is listed next at +700. Burnes is 7-4 with a 2.14 ERA and is among the MLB strikeouts leaders.
The Dodgers Tony Gonsolin is 11-0. His ERA was under 2.00 for the entire season until he gave up five to the Cardinals in his last start before the All-Star game. The five earned runs against the Cardinals was the first time Gonsolin allowed more than two in a start all season. Gonsolin is fifth on the board at +1600.
San Diego’s Joe Musgrove (8-2, 2.42) is given +1400 odds to win and Atlanta lefty Max Fried (10-3, 2.64) is listed at +1600 with Gonsolin.
In the AL, Tampa Bay’s Shane McClanahan is the overall favorite at +200. He’s 10-3 with a ridiculous 1.71 ERA and he’s been among the leaders in strikeouts all season.
Justin Verlander leads the majors with 12 wins (12-3) and his ERA is down to 1.89. Verlander, a two-time Cy Young winner, is listed at +250. Ohtani checks in at +850 and is the only other AL pitcher with better than +1000 odds.
